"During the period 1990 until 2001, I was Chief Executive
and Director of Lilleshall Sports and Conference Centre Limited,
which had the contract to manage the National Sports Centre at Lilleshall
in Shropshire. Part of the detailed contract requirements, issued
by the then Sports Council in London, stated that our company would
be required to obtain a Quality System before the end of our first
five year period otherwise we would not be considered for other
contracts within their organisation.
We therefore addressed the problem and looked at the various quality
systems available. It became apparent that we did not have the in-house
expertise to tackle the issue ourselves and decided to look for
assistance outside the company. We met with Di Holliday who at that
time was undertaking a similar consultancy with a company locally.
Di Holliday was appointed by my company to prepare written systems
and procedures for staff to use during the period leading up to
our application to the BSI for BS5750 and then ISO9002. She was
also heavily involved with staff on a day-to-day basis to ensure
that they were ready to use the quality system and that they were
up to speed in preparation for the BSI assessments. She was give
the task of achieving ISO9002 within a two year timescale.
I can record that Di Holliday worked exceptionally hard for us
and we would not have achieved the award had it not been for her
administrative skill and her ability to convince staff, many of
whom were long serving, that to achieve the ISO stamp they must
change and undertake a new way of working. We were awarded ISO9002
at the first attempt with only very minor changes necessary. Our
ongoing annual assessments were also successful and Di Holliday
was also involved with these and our quality system audits.
Finally I might add that the National Centre was a large and complex
organisation. It was spread over 200 acres of grounds, had four
multi purpose sports halls, two large specialist gynmnasia, 35 acres
of playing fields, 230 bedrooms together with bars, dining areas
etc, administrative centre, sports rehabilitation centre, hard and
grass tennis courses, artificial hockey pitch, conference rooms
and a whole variety of supporting facilities. Her achievement was
therefore considerable and I can recommend her to you".
